Active in the Park

2040 completed four wonderful events in Aurora City Park, called "Active in the Park". These events allowed kids from the adjacent housing development and neighborhood to participate in physical activities, have their fitness measured, and learn about healthy eating. Over 420 participants attended the four events! This program is a result of the recent study completed by 2040 Partners for Health with our community partner Taking Neighborhood Health to Heart that measured kids obesity rates in five neighborhoods. Our goal was to test the interest of the community in participating and in continuing these programs if sports equipment is made available for their use, and facilities are available close to home. We had fantastic response from kids and parents, and will be making sure that the community is supported in keeping this program going.

Thanks to our wonderful event sponsor, the SlimGenics Foundation, and to our in-kind donors, Sports Authority, the Colorado Rockies, Live Well Colorado, Park Hill Bike Depot, Aurora Police Department, and Original Aurora Renewal.

Thank you too to our fantastic volunteers: Regis College Physical Therapy Students and Professor Ira Gorman, Tri-county Health department,  Kim Farmer at Mile High Fitness, and our many community volunteers, including the Denver School of the Arts NHS students.
